Breed Overview Information:

American Staffordshire Terrier information’s details are easy to find.  The breed, which was also known as the Yankee Terrier, Pit Bull Terrier, Half-Half, and American Bull Terrier. There was a confusion between the Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. So to avoid that confusion, It was named and recognized as the American Staffordshire Terrier by the American Kennel Club in 1936.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is one of the most lovable dog breeds around.

Height : male: 18-19 inches ( 45-48 centimeters ); female: 17-18  inches (45-48  centimeters )

Weight : male: 57-67  lbs (25 – 30 kg ) ; female : 57-67  lbs ( 25 – 30 kg )

Breed Character Information:

Before, the American Staffordshire Terrier was one of the small dogs who were used in the farm. They helped in hunting wild pigs and bears. They were even guard dogs for the farmers.

Nowadays, these kinds of dog breed are best for children’s pets and also as show dogs. They are courageous in nature.

They are muscular yet agile and graceful. They are intelligent, hard workers, and have a high activity level making them the kind of dog breeds, which are very good in dog sports and activities.

They are also loyal and they are reliable with guarding children. The American Staffordshire Terrier is comfortable around people and needs a lot of attention and interaction. They are devoted, gentle, loving, and protective.

Breed Coat Information:

The American Staffordshire Terrier puppy is of different and lovely colours. They can be part patched, they can even be brindles or even in any or many combinations.

This kind of  breed has short and straight coats, which are easy to maintain and their grooming is easy. Their coats should be glossy and stiff to the touch and are never or should not be soft and silky.

Breed Temperament Information:

It is very stable, which makes them a very lovable pet. This dog is very friendly especially with little children, but it is always better to be safe and be around the children with their puppy. These dog breeds get along with other dogs. These all have been researched about their temperament, but they can still change depending on their surroundings and situation.

It is one of the best dog pets an adult or a child could have. With their all-around skills and a stable temperament, they are most of the time loved by families. They are easy to love and care for and they are reliable with guarding children and homes. A very active kind of puppy, which can be very playable with people.

Breed Activity Information:

The American Staffordshire Terrier needs some exercise since they are active and lively. They would prefer being in large houses, which have backyards so they can move around.

They don’t like in small houses or apartments because they have the tendency to be bored and can be destructive inside the house. It is required that the American Staffordshire Terrier have a 2-hour exercise every day, some walks and runs and have a free time within a fenced area.

Breed Care Information:

As stated earlier, the American Staffordshire Terrier doesn’t need too much grooming since its coat is short. Depending on the climate, it can shed very much but normally, it sheds just a little.

If they have dead or loose hair, using a dry towel or a rubber glove would be effective. It is more recommended to just do dry shampooing rather than bathing, but bathing can be done just occasionally.

Breed Training Information:

Since the American Staffordshire Terrier is very energetic and lively, training is not that difficult. Since this kind of dog breeds is intelligent yet stubborn, they need consistent and firm training from a strong and dominant owner. Firm and strong corrections is needed since this kind of  dog is powerful and willful. Training them to be being obedient in their early stages is necessary.
